One of the best ways to ensure greater patient safety in health services is through the creation of hospital commissions. They are formed by technical professionals, such as doctors and nurses, and their main function is to serve as a management tool, by offering subsidies to the board¹.
Hospitals, according to their specificities, seek to set up hospital commissions, always aiming at increasingly effective results with patients. Likewise, it is the role of the committees, through risk management and guidance in the implementation of protocols, to translate results that reflect positively on the institutional image¹.
Because of this relevance, the hospital commission program has acquired increasing importance in the area of health services, due to the integrality between the sectors. Another factor is the achievements and administrative improvements, which are essential for hospital accreditation processes².
There are several objectives of the hospital pharmacy. However, it is necessary to carefully observe their reach with efficiency and effectiveness in patient care and integration with other activities developed in the hospital environment².
The hospital pharmacy must be focused on providing pharmaceutical assistance and, for that to happen, it must have an organizational structure where the mission, values , and vision of the future must be established, and the Pharmacy must be inserted in the institutional organization chart. Formulate, implement and monitor strategic planning, establishing criteria (indicators) for assessing the performance of the service³.
Prepare and revise the Manual of Procedures and Various Operating Procedures. Monitor financial/budgetary performance. Participate in the committees for the formulation of policies and procedures related to pharmaceutical assistance, such as Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Hospital Infection Control Committee, Ethics Committee, Nutritional Support Committee and Health Waste Management Committee, Technology Evaluation Committee, Hospital Risks Commission, among others.
Therefore, hospital commissions are of fundamental importance for the management of the hospital institution and contribute to the formulation of policies, coordination, and monitoring of the hospital³.
Likewise, within an accreditation process, they are responsible for implementing the necessary steps to obtain certifications. They must seek from the management team the implementation of the necessary actions and tools, in addition to demanding compliance with the established rules³.
